Last Thursday I made my first satellite contact via RS-10. Yee-Haaa!! as they say. Other than chasing myself all over the place due to doppler and not keeping my transmissions brief, it really wasn't bad at all. After putting things off for years, I really enjoyed myself. (Those comments for any readers who have yet to actually take the plunge. Don't put it off!) One problem, though, and a question. First, the problem: I was using an R-7 for the down-link antenna, but noticed that if I switched to the 20-75 trap dipole the signal might improve. Going back and forth between antennas allowed me to keep contact. That got me to wondering, though, if some other arrangement might work better. What about crossed Yagis, fed with a 1/4 section? Maybe over a ground plane? If this arrangement has merit, what lengths and spacings would be optimal? Could I get a pattern similar to the Egg-beater I'm using on 2M? Now the question: Is the down-link from RS-10 weaker than from RS-12 or is it just my imagination? Thanks in advance. Gary Rogers WA4YMZ E-mail: Gary Rogers@dgc.ceo.dg.com P.S. I may work for Data General, but these opinions are my own 'cause no own else will claim them. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 06 Jul 1994 17:45:00 EDT From: ihnp4.ucsd.edu!usc!math.ohio-state.edu!howland.reston.ans.net!noc.near.net!usenet.elf.com!rpi!psinntp!arrl.org!usenet@network.ucsd.edu Subject: ARLS024 SAREX QSL cards To: ham-space@ucsd.edu SB SPACE @ ARL $ARLS024 ARLS024 SAREX QSL cards ZCZC AS68 QST de W1AW Space Bulletin 024 ARLS024 ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 06 Jul 1994 17:46:18 EDT From: ihnp4.ucsd.edu!swrinde!howland.reston.ans.net!noc.near.net!usenet.elf.com!rpi!psinntp!arrl.org!usenet@network.ucsd.edu Subject: ARLS025 New Astronaut Hams To: ham-space@ucsd.edu SB SPACE @ ARL $ARLS025 ARLS025 New Astronaut Hams ZCZC AS69 QST de W1AW Space Bulletin 025 ARLS025 ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 6 Jul 1994 23:32:35 GMT From: ihnp4.ucsd.edu!swrinde!emory!cherry.atlanta.com!nanovx!kd4dts!jcw@network.ucsd.edu Subject: DOVE Confusion, Need Clarification To: ham-space@ucsd.edu I'm a little confused about the DOVE satellites (so what's new many people shout together...) Is DO-17 the DOVE satellite? And what modes, etc does it support? I'm trying to find the TLE's to add to PCTRACK, and I'm not sure what I'm looking for. Someone recently posted a large list of TLE, and the closest thing I find is DO-17. - John -- -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- John C. B/SSB, J/FM, etc.) and the satellite is more than adequate for any logging, QSLing and record keeping requirements. In my log and on cards under the 'FREQ' column I put the satellite name and under 'MODE' the operating modes as above. 73 ============================================================= John Boudreau VE8EV INTERNET: ve8ev@amsat.org Inuvik, NWT, CANADA PACKET: VE8EV@KL7GNG.#NAK.AK.USA.NA ============================================================= ------------------------------ Date: (null) From: (null) ------------------------------ Date: (null) From: (null) ------------------------------ End of Ham-Space Digest V94 #179 ******************************
